Dolly Parton Says She Never Had A 'Burning' Desire For Kids With Her Longtime Husband

Dolly Parton is speaking out about why she never felt compelled to become a mother. In a new interview with Saga Magazine, the "Rockin' Years" singer, who has been married to her husband,

businessman Carl Dean, since 1966, claimed she hasn't "missed it" as much as she expected when the couple decided not to have children.

"When you're a young couple, you think you're going to have kids, but it just wasn't one of those burning things for me," the 77-year-old Parton said. "I had my career and my music and I was traveling."

The 11-time Grammy winner believes her career would not have blossomed as much if she had children.

"If I'd had kids, I'd have stayed home with them, I'm sure, and worried myself to death about them," she remarked. "With everything that's going on, I'd hate to be bringing a child into this world right now."

Parton voiced her relief over not having children in an interview with Mojo magazine in September"I'm almost glad I never had children," she admitted at the time. "I worry myself to death .

about my little nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews." The "Joyful Noise" singer may not have children of her own, but she is famously Miley Cyrus' godmother.

Parton claimed in November that she consented to be Cyrus' godmother while on tour with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, to promote his 1992 hit "Achy Breaky Heart."
