Her hometown displays a massive Shakira statue.

Colombia's BOGOTA (AP) — In her native Barranquilla, Colombia, pop sensation Shakira was honored as authorities unveiled a massive bronze monument of the music diva, who is well-known worldwide for her upbeat songs and thrilling dance movements.

The monument, which stands six meters (20 feet) tall, features the multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy winner wearing a well-known belly dance costume, with her hips swaying to the right and her arms gracefully raised to the sky.

Underneath the statue, there is an inscription stating that on February 2, 1977, "Barranquilla and the world witnessed the birth of a heart that composes, hips that don’t lie, a voice that moves masses and a pair of bare feet that walk for the good of children and humanity."

The statue was unveiled on Tuesday in a modest ceremony that was witnessed by Shakira's parents and the mayor, Jaime Pumarejo.

It is situated on a freshly constructed promenade along the Magdalena River that runs along the town's edge.

The massive bronze statue is not the first Shakira statue in the Caribbean town, though.

A Shakira monument that shows the music queen in her early years, wearing jeans and boots and picking up an acoustic guitar, was unveiled in Barranquilla in 2006. The local soccer stadium's entrance is not far from that statue.

Shakira expressed her gratitude to sculptor Yino Marquez and his pupils at Barranquilla's public art academy for the latest statue in a post on X, the previous Twitter platform. She characterized it as evidence of the "enormous talent" of Barranquilla's residents.
