"The Rock" Johnson's XFL/USFL becomes NFL

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson declared on Sunday that the spring football league formed by the union of the USFL and XFL would now be known as the United Football League,

with the terms "Xtreme" and "States" being dropped, respectively. On March 30, they will play the first game of the season.

On Fox's NFL pregame broadcast, Johnson made the revelation alongside his fellow league co-owner and longtime film producing partner,

ex-wife Dany Garcia. The XFL was acquired by Johnson and Garcia, along with RedBird Capital Partners,

for $15 million from Johnson's former WWE boss Vince McMahon. The season ended abruptly due to the COVID-19 pandemic,

which had thwarted McMahon's attempt to restart the ,league in 2020.Johnson stated on Fox that he thought there would

be interest in a spring football league from both players and fans who want

to show scouts that they are good enough to play in the NFL if they were overlooked by them in college.
