‘Yellowstone’ Star Luke Grimes Wants Country Music

Luke Grimes, who plays former NAVY Seal Kayce Dutton on the Paramount Network series Yellowstone, intends to go back to his musical roots and pursue a career in country music. He is planning a songwriting trip to Nashville.

Grimes has been writing songs and collaborating with his management group, which also represents Hailey Whitters, Midland, and his co-star in Yellowstone, singer-songwriter Ryan Bingham, who portrays former felon Walker.

Prior to this, Grimes was the drummer for the alt-country band Mitchells Folly, based in Los Angeles, who put out their first album Whirlwind in 2008.

Grimes recalled his previous musical endeavors, saying, "It was around that time when the alt-country thing was really going on."

"Ryan Adams and Wilco were huge back then, and we were similar in certain ways. I was able to contribute to the band's songwriting and play guitar in addition to being the drummer. It was an interesting encounter. "

The 37-year-old, who began performing music as a teenager, is also listed as a songwriter for the Jesse Cole song "Reckless Road," which was composed for the Outlaw Country television series' 2012 pilot.

Grimes is a fan of several of the musicians on Yellowstone and mentions Colter Wall, who had three songs in Season 4, as an inspiration.

Grimes is surrounded by a musical ensemble that includes Bingham and co-star Kevin Costner, who has been fronting the band Modern West since 2007.
